SADAKO’S MOVING UP CEREMONY

I can’t believe it – Sadako’s done with pre-school. It feels like it was just yesterday when I dropped her off at school for her first day, and now she’s done with the whole thing!



Last March was her moving-up ceremony and it was a fun get-together with all the students and their parents. It was filled with food, stories, and a lot of reminiscing.



It was one of the few times that people from the school saw Sadako in a dress because we like to dress her up in tights and a long-sleeved shirt on school days, afraid of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.


Sadako wore head-to-toe H&M: a delicate white sleeveless dress, a pair of silver sandals, and a flower headband.




Sadako, of course, had so much fun with her classmates; she couldn’t stay put in her seat and she didn’t even want to eat. She just wanted to play and spend time with her classmates because she knew she wouldn’t see some of them again anymore since they’re going to different schools next schoolyear.




Sadako and her classmates performed a couple of numbers. My favorite would have to be their performance of Rent’s Seasons of Love. Sadako wasn’t the star but she sure stole the spotlight when she did a la Mariah Carey (you know, that hand/finger thing) during that piping part!



Sadako had so much fun in preschool and learned a lot from her teachers, and now we can’t wait for her to start life at the big school.

Congratulations to shoe brand TOMS, which now has their flagship store at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall! I have to admit I’ve never owned a pair of TOMS so when I got to the store, I took my time and looked at EVERYTHING, from the men’s shoes to the even the women’s, plus those for kids, too. Now this has got to be my favorite and I have already promised my feet that I shall buy a beautiful polk-a-dotted pair once I get my 13 th month pay. Lakas maka-hot dad, noh? This looks pretty cool, too. Not-your-usual, but not too in-your-face. This blue-and-white striped one is also something I would go for, although I’d love to use a pair for summer just so I can go for a nautical look. I AUDITIONED FOR SMOKEY MOUNTAIN

I loved singing and performing for relatives and guests at home when I was young. One time, when I was about four years old, my mother asked me to sing Tomorrow for our relatives who were visiting. I instantly burst into song. However, after singing the first line with so much passion, I decided to stop and asked to be excused. I went inside my room, did a proper entrance, and then whipped out my milk bottle, which I used as a microphone. I sang “The sun will come out tomorrow” again and finished the song. No doubt about it: even when I was just a kid, I already knew I wanted to sing and perform for others. Fast forward to my high school years. One day, I read in the papers that Ryan Cayabyab was forming an all-male version of Smokey Mountain. Of course, I just had to try out. I didn’t tell my parents about it. MY 3-YEAR-OLD IS ALREADY WEARING A BRA

And it’s Beyonce’s fault. See, Sadako has a thing for playing dress-up. She asks for a bandana or a scarf or any piece of cloth to be wrapped around her head whenever she wants to sing along to her favorite Erykah Badu song, “Bag Lady.” She makes sure she’s wearing her kitten heels whenever she performs Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War.” She grabs this piece of white piece of lacy fabric and puts it around her shoulders whenever she’s copying Christina Aguilera in her American Music Awards performance, where she sang a medley of tracks from her “Lotus” album, starting with “Lotus (Intro).” So going back to Beyonce, my little one discovered the talented star just recently when I popped in a DVD copy of her 2006 concert. It didn’t take long for Sadako to copy the star’s birits, moves, and get-ups.
