GET MORE WITH TANG

Image
I grew up drinking Tang orange juice. I drank it with my merienda. I had it for my baon. We prepared punch bowls of it for birthday parties. And I’m so happy it’s still around! Can you believe that Tang has been around for 46 years??? That’s how good the product is. And because the brand knows how to innovate, there are now 16 different Tang flavors for us to enjoy. There are new flavors like mango, pineapple, dalandan, pomelo (perfect for pomelo gin!), mixed berries, and guyabano, which is my current favorite. However, orange will forever be special in my heart because one sip of Tang orange juice instantly brings me back to my childhood days when my late lola was still alive and would prepare me a cold refreshing glass of it. I’m happy that my daughter can enjoy the same exact drink that I enjoyed when I was her age – and she’s not just limited to orange. The good thing is that because Tang is made with real fruit extracts, it has vitamin...

#EDENCOMFORTFOOD

Image
I rarely cook at home for Sadako. It’s always someone else – or dine-out/take-home/delivery. So when I actually do I make sure it’s special and it’s something she likes. Plus it should be easy! Eden recently sent us a goodie basket containing comfort food ingredients and I am so excited to make some yummy snacks for the family. Mac and cheese is one of Sadako’s all-time faves, while sardines sandwich is something I don’t get to regularly eat but sounds really good. I really hope they Sadako will like what I’ll prepare coz nothing says I love you like home-cooked comfort food. Buti na lang they look easy to do. Check out the recipes below. MAC AND CHEESE     3 tbsp, butter 2 tbsp, flour 2 cups milk 8 oz, shredded Eden cheese 2 cups, elbow macaroni Heat oven to 350F. In a saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add flour and stir until bubbly. Gradually stir in milk then bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir constantly and...

EDEN QUESO DE BOLA FLAVOR

Image
Some people -- including most kids -- don't like queso de bola. I myself was not a fan when I was very young and my lola would serve cheese pimiento sandiwches using queso de bola in the spread. After a couple of years, however, I started to appreciate it. Apart from beginning to love my lola's cheese pimiento spread, I also developed a liking for queso de bola. In fact, I'd make queso de bola sandwiches myself (as in nothing but slices of the cheese in between two slices of Tasty bread or pandesal) and even nibble on some during snack time. It's been a while since I last had some queso de bola. The few balls I'd receive every Christmas I instantly gave to my grandfather. I miss it, actually. So imagine how I excited I was when I discovered that Eden has a limited queso de bola flavor. This is actually the first time that the brand is introducing a limited edition flavor in its 36-year history. Wow. Now I can't wait to taste Eden Queso de...

LA PACITA GRAHAM CRACKER SANDWICHES

Image
I’m always one the lookout for yummy snacks for the office and these Graham cracker sandwiches from La Pacita caught my attention at the supermarket recently. I was like, oo nga noh. It’s such a no-brainer when you come to think of it, but then no one really thought of it earlier but it really makes perfect sense. I guess we were all busy using Graham crackers for mango floats and ref cakes and s’mores. Good thing La Pacita came up with these Graham cracker sandwiches. The chocolate and peanut butter flavors were pretty expected but they’re still so good. I especially like the peanut butter flavor but both really complement the crunch and taste of the Graham crackers. My super favorite has got to be the cream cheese flavor. The cream cheese filling is pretty good, with that slightly sour-salty taste. It’s genius! I love all of them so much I didn’t even get the chance to share them with Sadako. Guess I’ll be buying twice as much the nex...

WINGSTOP #FLAVORINVASION2017

Image
I am addicted to chicken wings. It’s something I can eat all the time. Good thing it can come in different rubs or glazes and with a variety of sauces. There are times when I like it with rice (which is usually hahaha) and other times when making papak is okay. I recently got to try the good stuff from Wingstop and based on my experience I think I’ll be having lots more of their food regularly. I like my chicken wings wet and saucy and sweet so it was love at first bite when I tried Wingstop’s batterfried wings in mango habanero and honey garlic. The two flavors are different but equally addicting. They are so flavorful so eating them with rice is a good suggestion.  For a change, I tried partnering them with Wingstop fries and onion rings, and that ended up being a good combination. Honeybun likes her chicken dry (but with a dip) so she enjoyed the classic wing in Louisiana rub dipped in ketchup (and then blue cheese dip, and then the ho...

DINER FAVES AT JET 7 BISTRO

Image
I live in Quezon City, near the Timog and Tomas Morato areas, which are packed with all these bars and cafes and restaurants. Can you believe that I’ve been living in QC for around four years already and there are still places in those areas I haven’t tried? To think that I love eating out and that we love trying out new places for work meetings. One place I’m definitely going to try out next month is a diner called Jet 7 Bistro Diner. I checked out their food offerings and just realized that a lot of them are my favorites. Take for example the crispy calamari. I love crispy food, especially when paired with a good dip, like their marinara sauce. It’s just an appetizer but I end up eating it with rice if it’s really good. And then there’s southern-style friend chicken. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, I don’t feel any guilt when I enjoy this comfort food. They also have an assortment of pancakes and waffles. Some like them with all ...

PERFECT COMBINATION: CADBURY DAIRY MILK + OREO

Image
Cadbury Dairy Milk has got to be one of my favorite chocolates. Some people find it too sweet, but I love sweet so I really love Cadbury. I have a lot of good memories involving it. I remember trying out all their flavors (my favorite is Fruit & Nut, but I also tried out and liked their other cool flavors like Black Forest) and finishing all these big bars all by myself. I remember saving the wrappers and using them as stationery, trying to carefully and perfectly peel out the gold wrapper, and loving it when the chocolate got all melted. Another favorite snack of mine? Oreo cookies (just like 99% of the human race). I don’t dunk it in milk, though, or twist it open and eat the filling first (I prefer the cookies, to be honest). I just pop one inside my mouth, wait for the whole thing to melt, and then start chewing. I have a lot of memories involving Oreo cookies, too. I used to make all these desserts that use Oreos, and they were a big hit with family and friends. ...

15 THINGS I ATE (AND DRANK) IN HONG KONG

Image
I was a very bad boy in Hong Kong -- I ate a LOT. I also didn't take a lot of notes so expect a lot of the food items below missing a lot of important details like where I had them and how much they cost. Just enjoy the photos :) 1. THIS SCALLOPS RICE MEAL FROM CAFE DE CORAL Café de Coral is a fast food chain in HK but with slightly more sosyal food choices. I got this rice meal with some pieces of scallops, mushroom, and vegetables. It wasn’t life-changing. The sauce was just okay but the rice was really nice. 2. CRISPY BREAD WITH CONDENSED MILK, AND MILK TEA FROM TSUI WAH It was around 3pm or 4pm and we were already so tired from all the shopping and walking on our first day that we just had to sit and eat somewhere – anywhere. We went inside Tsui Wah coz it was nearby. Their milk tea is okay – normal milk tea (I’ve tasted similar/better), and their best-selling crispy bread is something I think my yaya can also make at home. 3. PASTA...
