It’s Valentine’s Day today and I just realized that I look at it differently now as opposed to how I viewed it when I was still a teenager or even about 10 years ago, when Sadako wasn’t around yet.

I still consider it a time when all these brands and people try to make money out of love and romance. Nevertheless I still think it’s a fun season because everyone is reminded about love and their loved ones, and how important it is to express our love for our loved ones.

Things have really changed now that I am a family man. The star of my life is my daughter Sadako and I love her so much I always tell and show her how much I love her.


For example, when Toblerone sent me this beautiful package of chocolates (they have the best, creative, wow-inducing packages), I instantly thought about Sadako – how she’d like some and how sweet it’d be if she gave away some to her teachers and classmates. Ten years ago I’d just hide everything inside my closet so no one would see the chocolates – I can have them all for myself!


So today Sadako is giving away some Toblerone chocolates in these gorgeous-looking Valentine’s-themed sleeves.


I like this metallic orange one because it’s unisex.


This one’s pretty clever.


But my favorite is this gorgeous one with hummingbirds. I love the colors.

There are lots of designs to choose from, from artworks by talented people like Solenn Heussaff, Alexis Ventura, Abbey Sy, and Tokwa Penaflorida.


Blank packs will also be available at Toblerone pop-up stations in malls like SM Makati, SM North EDSA, SM Mall of Asia, and Robinsons Ermita until today so better head to one of those malls and come up with a really sweet, personalized gift for your loved ones.



And oh, can I just say that I am ADDICTED to the Toblerone milk chocolate with crunchy salted almonds??? It still has honey and almond nougat, but oh wow, those caramelized almond pieces upgrade the already good Toblerone!

I loved singing and performing for relatives and guests at home when I was young. One time, when I was about four years old, my mother asked me to sing Tomorrow for our relatives who were visiting. TAO NA!

I’ve always found the expression “Tao na!” (used to describe a baby who’s already acting like a big kid or an adult) hilarious, but I found myself using it a couple of hours ago when Sadako kept on bugging Honeybun, my sister and I while we were enjoying our shawarma pizza dinner. To shut her up, we offered her a bite. As it turned out, she wanted more than just a bite. Good thing we didn’t put hot sauce on all the slices. Tao na!

Some years ago, back when my now-1-year old daughter Sadako wasn’t even an idea yet, I came across an article about how supposedly bad TV is for babies and young kids. I now don’t remember the boob tube’s bad effects on little ones (although I really should Google that), but whatever they are, my daughter must already be suffering from them because watching TV has been a daily habit for her for half a year now. Blame me and my girlfriend, Honeybun; we always have the TV set turned on. Apart from being soothing background noise, we discovered that it can be some sort of a babysitter, too. For example, certain commercials would make our daughter stop crying or catch her attention long enough for us to squeeze in drops of yucky medicine inside her mouth.
